To choose a living room poster, start with the wall you want to highlight. An arrangement above a sofa, next to a bookcase or facing the entrance is not viewed from the same distance.
1Connect the poster to your existing decor
Pick out 1 or 2 colors in the rug, the cushions or the furniture. You can echo them in the poster to create continuity, or choose a contrast you love. A home can mix several styles: it does not call for a single type of illustration.
Compare the living room posters, the city views and the botanical subjects. Keep a few visuals in your selection, then look at them together before choosing.
2A single poster, a pair or a full set?
A single poster gives a subject room to breathe. A pair brings together 2 colors or 2 points of view. For a larger set, sketch out the layout with the spacing between frames: the result depends on the total footprint, not just on the size of each print.
The number of seats on your sofa does not dictate a required size. Measure the wall, mark out the frames with templates, then view them from the sofa and from the entrance. Check that the arrangement does not get in the way of lamps or furniture.
3Prepare for framing
The dimensions of the frame can exceed those of the paper, especially with a mat. Also check the orientation available on each poster’s page. The framing guide details the measurements to take before buying and hanging.
